Please join us on Friday, October 26 for a Family Law Section CLE: Domestic Violence: A Community Issue

Since October is domestic violence awareness month, our community spotlight this month is Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley. They will assist in a CLE presentation on the intersection between family law and domestic violence.

With the changes in Colorado law relating to coercive control, we are seeing an increase of the community as a whole recognizing domestic violence. The inclusion of coercive control as it relates to parenting time and decision making in family law cases has increased awareness and also increased the need for support to those seeking assistance. There are specific considerations that those interacting with domestic violence survivors need to consider from the initial meeting, during the separation phase, and throughout the legal process.

This CLE program will discuss with participants the resources available in the Boulder County area through Safe Shelter, the specific legal needs of those seeking Safe Shelter’s assistance, assessments and protocols for attorneys when working with survivors of domestic violence, and the call for action to recognize domestic violence as a community issue and not just the individual’s issue.
